Growing turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a rewarding and relatively straightforward process. Turmeric is a tropical plant known for its rhizomes, which are used as a spice and for their potential health benefits. Here are steps to grow turmeric:
* Select a Suitable Location: Turmeric requires a warm, humid climate. If you live in a region with cold winters, consider growing it in a pot that you can bring indoors during the winter months. It also prefers partial to full shade.
* Prepare the Soil: Turmeric thrives in well-draining, rich soil. Prepare the soil by adding compost or organic matter to improve its fertility and drainage.
* Planting: Plant the rhizomes about 2 inches deep and space them 6 to 8 inches apart. If you're growing in a pot, choose a large container with good drainage.
* Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Turmeric likes humidity, so misting the leaves can help replicate its natural environment.
* Fertilization: Fertilize the turmeric plants with a balanced, organic fertilizer every couple of months during the growing season.
* Mulching: Apply mulch around the plants to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
* Protection from Cold: If you're growing turmeric in a region with cold winters, move the pots indoors or provide protection when the temperature drops.
* Harvesting: Turmeric is usually ready to harvest 8 to 10 months after planting when the leaves start to yellow and die back. Carefully dig up the rhizomes, and you can use them fresh or dry them for storage.
* Storage: Store harvested turmeric rhizomes in a cool, dry place. You can peel and grind them as needed for culinary or medicinal purposes.
Remember that turmeric is a tropical plant, so it may not thrive in all climates. If you live in a region with harsh winters, growing it in pots that can be brought indoors during the cold months is a good option. Additionally, turmeric plants may take some time to establish and produce rhizomes, so patience is key.

We ship the largest plants we have. If your plant is bigger than the box they are meant to ship in we will bend the plant to make them fit. Within a week and proper sunlight, the plant will become straight again.
All of our packaging including the plastic bag, tape, and packing peanuts are compostable.
We ship our plants on Monday and Wednesday only, to insure plants arrive well. We do not Ship to California or outside of the continental United States. If you wish to receive a plant in Puerto Rico or Hawaii, etc. please contact us and we will give you the correct shipping price.
We put great care into packing our plants to insure a healthy plant arrival, however sometimes the shipping company does not ship on time or damages the package.
HERE IS WHAT YOU DO:
Take a picture of the damaged plant inside the open box on the day of arrival. We will not accept unpackaged plants (unless more than two are in the box) or images from a later date. We offer replacements or refunds ONLY if plants are dead (no green leaves) or did not arrive. For broken stems or wilted plants, please use the insurance claim connected to your tracking number that come along with the shipping as all our shipments are insured up to $100
